Inspired Nevada Leaders gathered for an event in January to discuss the issues they care about.
Inspired Nevada bridged the gap between the youth and legislators on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus at our Civic Action Launch & Luncheon (C.A.L.L.) on January 28th. The event attended by Inspired Leaders, elected officials, local high school students and school faculty provided a platform for all to gather and discuss important community issues and civic engagement. Our guests included Nevada State Senator Yvanna Cancela, Nevada Board of Education member Felicia Ortiz, City of Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen, North Las Vegas Councilman Isaac Barron, and Clark County School District Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky. After meaningful conversations over lunch, guests participated in a panel discussion to ask elected officials in attendance questions on topics such as school dress code, immigration, quality of education in Nevada, and funding for education. Inspired Fellows (2nd year Inspired Leaders), Jon Andre Parrilla, a Senior at West Career and Technical Academy and Rachel Pankey, a Senior at Coronado High School served as emcees for the event. Students from over 20 high schools across the valley were in attendance and the guest panel enjoyed discussing the youth's concerns.
